COMPARISON · UPDATED JULY 2026
The Wispr Flow alternative that can't disappear mid-sentence.
LockedIn Flow is the same dictation workflow — click, talk, text at your cursor — rebuilt to run entirely on your Mac. No cloud, no account, no subscription. $129 once, with a free 14-day trial that doesn't ask for a card.
What Wispr Flow gets right
Credit where it's due: Wispr Flow made dictation addictive. The cleanup is genuinely good — it strips filler, fixes grammar, and adjusts tone to the app you're in. It's cross-platform (Mac, Windows, iOS, Android), covers 100+ languages, and the free tier is a real on-ramp. If you need dictation on Windows and your phone, it is honestly the only polished option today.
Where it falls short — with receipts
- Reliability. As of July 2026, Trustpilot sits at 2.7/5, with the same complaints on repeat: freezes mid-sentence, "offline" errors on stable connections, dropped dictations, login lockouts. When the server is the product, the server is the failure mode.
- Privacy. Audio streams to their cloud. After the November 2025 controversy — where a user publicly documented periodic screen-context capture and had their account banned (the CTO later apologized) — their docs now describe capturing "limited text near your cursor" instead. "Privacy Mode" exists but is off by default on consumer plans.
- Price. $15/month or $144/year, every year, for processing your own Mac can do locally.
- Weight. It's an Electron app; users report ~800 MB idle RAM and multi-second cold starts.
The structural difference: Wispr Flow's failures are cloud failures. LockedIn Flow has no server between your voice and your text — Parakeet TDT v3 runs on the Apple Neural Engine, and the cleanup model runs on-device too. There's nothing to freeze, drop, or lock you out. And every dictation is written to an encrypted recovery store before it's inserted — plus it's on your clipboard — so a dictation can't vanish. Ever.

Stays in your pocket
Switch in two minutes
- Download LockedIn Flow and open it (right-click → Open the first time).
- Grant Microphone + Accessibility when macOS asks — the model downloads once (~600 MB).
- Click the mic on the floating handle, talk, click stop. Same muscle memory as Wispr's bar.
- Add your custom words in Settings → Vocabulary (or let it suggest them from your dictations).
Honesty box: where Wispr Flow is still better
Cross-platform support (Windows, iOS, Android), 100+ languages, and device-synced settings. LockedIn Flow is macOS-only, Apple Silicon only, and focused on 25 European languages. If you dictate across operating systems, keep Wispr Flow. If you live on a Mac and want dictation that works every single time without sending your voice anywhere — that's why we exist.
